In this chapter called " Get them to Like You", it starts by taking notice of the word decorum. Its the art of appropriate. This latin word means to "fit" as in suitable. Decorum is basically getting your audience expectations so they will find your appealing. But don't think that one piece fits all. Just because decorum worked for one persuader, it doesn't mean it'll work for every situation. Just think about it. Lets say one of friends got a new hairstyle and it looks great on her. So i think "Hey, if it looks good on her, it'll look good on me too". But then once done, it just didn't work out for me. You see one style doesn't fit everyone. Just as how you dress too.But for decorum is all about your audience into liking you, well liking who they want you to be. So the best thing to do here is to look the part! And then there the final thing. Act the part! Know what you are saying! An audience loves it when a person is confident.I mean would you believe someone who barely knows what he is saying? Yeah, I don't think so.
What did I learn?
From this chapter I learned the different ways you show decorum. Decorum is meeting your audience expectations. The whole purpose is to get the audience to like you.Its literally all about the opinion of the audience and we want the good one not the bad one.One way of showing decorum is by acting the way your audience want you to act. If your in a office, your co-workers will be looking at you crazy if your not even close to being professional as they are.Come up with great ideas! Don't stay in the silent zone. They might not even notice your there!Decorum deals with clothing, gestures, timing, your manners, and even your voice.Using all those tools, it will allow you to make the audience feel like you are on his/her side. Thats exactly what you want. You want them to believe in you, and that you are they to help their needs and won't throw them off a cliff.Decorum can go both ways, your could be playing a really good role or your being honest to us all. And everyone loves one who is being honest to the audience and his/her self.Be careful of who you choose because you might not want to end like Senator Bob Packwood. Just saying.
